Community service can be ordered by a judge or by the supervising probation officer through the Adult Probation Department's in-house administrative sanctions protocol. The Community Service Unit places probationers at a variety of work sites throughout Cook County. The sites are either not-for-profit organizations or government agencies. The Cook County Adult Probation Department is a leader in community corrections, working with the judiciary and the community to create a safer society. PROBATION FOR ADULTS. The Circuit Court of Cook County has two departments dedicated to the oversight and provision of services to adults who have received a sentence of probation.
